Apple TV to broadcast MLS match filmed entirely on iPhone 17 Pro
On Saturday, May 23, Apple TV is set to make history by airing a Major League Soccer game captured exclusively with the iPhone 17 Pro. This will be the first time a major professional live sports event is fully filmed using an iPhone. The game between LA Galaxy and Houston Dynamo FC will be streamed live from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. This significant event occurs on the final weekend before the MLS regular season takes a break for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ in North America.
The iPhone 17 Pro will be used to capture live footage throughout the match, including player warmups, introductions, in-net goal angles, and the vibrant atmosphere within the stadium. Cameras set up around the venue will ensure the broadcast delivers high-quality video while offering exciting new perspectives that bring fans closer to the action, thanks to the iPhone’s compact size.
Apple TV first experimented with incorporating the iPhone into live sports broadcasts in September 2025 during a “Friday Night Baseball” game between the Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers. For that event, they used the iPhone 17 Pro to capture specific moments and cinematic in-stadium footage. The production was recognized by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, which added one of the iPhones used to its permanent collection. Featuring three 48MP Fusion cameras, the iPhone 17 Pro provides the equivalent of eight lenses and includes professional video features like Apple Log 2, which will also be utilized for this weekend’s broadcast.
Following a positive response from fans, Apple expanded the use of iPhone in other sports broadcasts, including the 2025 MLS Cup, before fully integrating this technology into regular “Friday Night Baseball” and MLS broadcasts in the 2026 season.
This weekend’s match between LA Galaxy and Houston Dynamo FC marks another step forward as the first live professional sports event filmed completely on an iPhone. Fans are invited to tune into Apple TV at 7:30 p.m. PT to see the iPhone 17 Pro in action.
Apple TV subscribers across more than 100 countries and regions can enjoy every MLS match, complete with detailed coverage and analysis, exclusive content, and more, without any blackouts. New subscribers have the opportunity to start with a one-week free trial.
