On Saturday, a moving auto-rickshaw exploded in Mangalore causing fire and heavy smoke. The driver and a passenger were among those who sustained burn injuries. Praveen Sood tweeted
“It’s confirmed now. The blast is not accidental but an ACT OF TERROR to cause serious damage.
Karnataka State Police is probing deep into it along with central agencies. “City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said, “The Special team and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are investigating the incident.” He added, “All angles are being investigated and we don’t want to speculate anything at this stage. We have prima facie found that it was a small improvised explosive device (IED). It can be detonated by a timer or by remote control.”

The police are also studying CCTV footage to identify the person who planted the IED and they are also looking at the footage of cameras installed near the bus stand. Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy said that the blast was not an accident but an act of terror. “There is no need to panic. I want to tell you that the State government will take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of people,” he said.
The Home Minister said that he was in touch with the police officials and they were trying to find out who was responsible for planting the bombs. A senior officer of the city police said that it was too early to say who was responsible for planting bombs at the bus stand but they were investigating all angles. The police said that they had found three unexploded bombs and had defused them. “We have taken all precautions,” he added.
