DigiYatra: Steps for Facial recognition technology at Indian airports

The new system would allow passengers to use their faces as the boarding pass and avoid waiting in long queues to get their tickets checked.

DigiYatra is a flagship project of the Civil Aviation Ministry to ensure hassle-free, paperless, and more efficient movement of passengers at airports. The new system would allow passengers to use their faces as the boarding pass and avoid waiting in long queues to get their tickets checked.

The Minister informed that initially, DigiYatra will be launched at three airports – Delhi, Bangalore, and Varanasi. By March 2023, DigiYatra will be launched at four more airports – Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad.

He further said that DigiYatra will be launched in a phased manner and the first phase is expected to be completed by December 2020.

Facial recognition technology is being used at airports to ensure that a passenger arriving in the country goes through security procedures in time for boarding his or her flight.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has launched the DigiYatra app, which will help passengers save time and effort by allowing them to proceed through the airport’s security check-in and boarding processes from their homes.

Passengers can now use their Aadhaar card to book a flight online. The government has launched the e-booking facility for domestic flights at all airports in India, making it possible for passengers to book on its website the same way they do at other airlines.
