Rishi Sunak, the leader of Conservative Party was selected as the Prime Minister of United Kingdom on Monday, creating the history of becoming the first Indian origin to ascend to the position.
As the former PM Boris Johnson, and Penny Mordaunt withdrew from the battle, the 42 year old Rishi Sunak secured his position as PM. It was only a few ago Ms. Liz Truss had quit her 45 day term as Prime Minister of UK, where Sunak was appointed as the Finance Minister.
Following the victory, many world leaders including US President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered their congratulations to Sunak on twitter.
“Congratulations to Rishi. We are proud of him and we wish him success”– said Mr. Narayana Murthy, Co-Founder of Infosys and Father-in-Law of Rishi Sunak.
Rishi Sunak will be officially taking charge as the Prime Minister of UK on Tuesday, after meeting King Charles III, as per protocol.
