A private hospital in Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) is facing demolition after a dengue patient died after being transfused with sweet lime juice instead of blood platelets. The authorities, who ordered the demolition, said a report on the sample collected from the hospital revealed that platelets and not sweet lime juice were transfused to the patient.
However, Global Hospital has been charged with laxity in the transfusion process as reports showed the platelets were stored in an unrefrigerated room and the person who was supposed to check the blood group of the patient was not present at the time of transfusion.
The hospital is likely to be demolished on Tuesday evening. The incident came to light after a team from the Uttar Pradesh State Agro Industries Development Corporation (UPSIDC) visited Global Hospital in Prayagraj over complaints of malpractices against it.
The team, headed by senior superintendent Rajendra Singh, was shocked to find that the hospital had no license for its blood bank and that the platelets were being stored in an unrefrigerated room. The team found that the person who was supposed to check the blood group of the patient was not present when they visited the hospital.
