India’s first 341 women Navy sailors under the Agniveer scheme

For the first time in its history, the Indian Navy has inducted women, sailors. Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar said on Saturday adding that around 3,000 Agniveer had been recruited and 341 among them are women.

Nearly 10 lakh individuals had applied for the available positions in the Indian Navy, 82,000 of them were women, the Navy chief said. ‘We have had a good response, for 3000 vacancies we had almost 10 lakh applicants of whom 82,000 were women.

We don’t have any issues with women in the Navy, they are doing a good job. They are onboard ships and serving in a variety of roles,’ he said. ‘We have never had a problem with women sailors

The Indian Navy has inducted its first batch of woman sailors after two decades. India’s first batch of women sailors has joined the Indian Navy.

It is a historic day for India as the country has become the first in the world to have all-women ships. The country’s first all-women warship is called INS Sahyadri. It has been built in Mumbai and is set to be commissioned by Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

INS Sahyadri is an indigenously designed and built guided missile stealth frigate, which will be capable of operating in all theatres including high-seas. It has been built by the Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) in Mumbai and will be commissioned into the Indian Navy on January 26.
