Google to allow third-party payments

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) said Google (GOOGL.O) used its “dominant position” to force app developers to use its in-app payment system, noting the sale of in-app digital goods is a key means for developers to monetize their work.

In its latest order, the Competition Commission of India has directed Google to allow third-party payments by app developers or face a penalty.

The online search giant is also expected to adhere to eight remedies within three months and clarify the communication with app developers about its policies for such services.
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has ordered Google to allow third-party payment apps on its Android mobile operating system.

The order was issued by the Commission after it found that Google had abused its dominance in the market for online search and violation of competition laws, it had restricted access to the “Google Play” Store. It had called CCI’s Thursday move “a major setback for Indian consumers and businesses”, adding it will review the order and decide on its next steps.
